November is when Coorg dries out. The last north-east monsoon showers usually end by the second week of the month, and November at Madikeri averages just 71 mm of rain over about 4 rainy days, with warm afternoons near 25 °C and nights near 16 °C. The hills are still green from the monsoon, the first coffee is picked, and the roads are quieter than they will be in December.

Every number below is a long-term India Meteorological Department average (1981–2010) from Madikeri, 36 km from the estate. Any single week can run wetter or drier, so ask the hosts how the month is going before you travel.

Is November a good time to visit Coorg?

Yes, it is one of the best months. November sits inside Karnataka Tourism’s October to March best-time window and has most of December’s weather without the year-end rush. Rain is still possible in the first week or two, but on about 4 days in the month rather than October’s 12.

It suits almost every kind of trip: walks on dry estate paths, a day out to Iruppu Falls or Nagarahole, and evenings outside that are cool rather than cold.

What is the weather like in Coorg in November?

Madikeri, IMD 1981–2010 October November December
Mean daily high 25.0 °C 25.3 °C 25.3 °C
Mean daily low 16.9 °C 15.6 °C 13.2 °C
Rainfall 211 mm 71 mm 20 mm
Rainy days about 12 about 4 about 1
Relative humidity 83% 74% 65%
Lowest on record 10.6 °C 7.9 °C 5.5 °C

Days barely change from October to December. What changes is the air: humidity falls from 83% to 74% to 65%, the nights get cooler, and the rain all but stops. ICAR-CRIDA’s district plan puts the end of the north-east monsoon showers in the second week of November, which makes the second half of the month usually the drier half.

What is happening on the coffee estates in November?

The harvest begins. By the Coffee Board of India’s figures, Arabica picking opens in November and runs to January, and Robusta follows from December to February. Around Pollibetta most of the coffee is Robusta (about 95% of the coffee area in the Board’s Virajpet zone), so the main picking in South Coorg starts in December, and in November you’ll see the berries ripening on the branches.

At Mokha Grove, the family confirms that picking on the estate keeps to the Coffee Board’s months. The guided morning walk, included in every stay, takes you into the coffee under the shade trees; ask when you book whether picking has started. For the whole year, month by month, see the Coorg coffee calendar.

What festivals fall in November?

Huthri, the Kodava rice-harvest festival, falls in the Kodava month of Birchyar, in late November or December. The exact day is set each year at the Padi Igguthappa temple, so it can’t be planned months ahead. It is mainly a family and village festival, so most rituals are private; our guide to Huthri explains what happens and how to be a respectful guest.

Deepavali falls on Sunday 8 November in 2026. The festival weekend brings more traffic from Bengaluru and Mysuru, so book early and drive in daylight. Deepavali is celebrated on Amavasya, the new moon, which also makes those the darkest nights of the month for stars.

Are November nights good for stargazing?

They are the start of the best stretch. With humidity falling and the rain almost gone, November to February bring Coorg’s clearest night skies. On a moonless evening, away from the towns, the sky over the estate fills with stars. At Mokha Grove, the bonfire and stargazing on the lawn after dinner are included in every stay, weather permitting.
