Coorg with kids

A boutique homestay on a coffee estate near Pollibetta, with an orchard, lawns, a kids' zone, Cooper the dog and a fire after dinner.

Laterite steps lead down to a lawn under tall trees, with two thatched gazebos and a square fire pit

Why it works with children

Room to run.

No stag or party groups, so the estate stays quiet and evenings end by the fire.

There's space, too: only two suites, with lawns and an orchard for the children, and a balcony over the trees for you while they nap.

  • Kids zone & activity area

A play area for younger children, close enough for parents to keep an eye on things.

  • The orchard

Avocado, litchi and sapota trees. What's ripe depends on the month, and some guests have gone home with fruit.

    Farm & Orchard Life
  • Lawns and gazebos

Grass for running about, and thatched gazebos where the grown-ups can sit with a coffee.

  • Table tennis, carrom and games

A table-tennis table on the veranda, with carrom and board games for after dinner.

  • Cooper

The hosts' German Shepherd lives on the estate and turns up in plenty of guest reviews. Mokha Grove is pet-friendly.

  • Gentle walks

The guided estate walk is included. Go as far as small legs want.

    Coffee Stories

“From cleanliness to food, everything was 10/10. The space is beautiful, green and peaceful. Also, big love to Cooper their dog!”

A gentle day

At a child's pace.

One easy way to spend a day without getting back in the car.

  1. First light

The birds start before the children do. Make a cup from the kettle in your room (estate coffee and tea) and take it out to the balcony.

  2. Breakfast

Included, home-style and laid out buffet-style in the open dining pavilion, so fussy eaters can choose their own plate.

  3. Morning

A short walk while it's cool: the orchard, the pond with hands held, or the guided estate walk.

  4. Midday

Back to the room for naps. On arrival day, this is when you settle in: check-in is from 1 PM.

  5. Afternoon

The kids' zone, table tennis on the veranda, the lawn. Older children may love the jeep ride (a paid add-on, starting at ~₹1,500). Or drive to Dubare Elephant Camp, about 35–50 minutes away.

  6. Evening

Home-cooked dinner on request (veg or non-veg, with prior notice), then the bonfire on the lawn. Carrom for whoever's still awake, and an early night.

Good to know

Notes for parents.

The estate pond, lily pads at one edge, ringed by dense forest and a stand of tall palms
Laterite steps with red-painted edges climbing through planting to a lamp post
The estate pond, and the laterite steps between the cottages. Lovely to look at; hold small hands near both.
Comfort
No air conditioning: the hill climate keeps it cool. High-speed ceiling fans and window mosquito nets in every suite. Open all year. An inverter keeps the lights, fans and Wi-Fi running during power cuts.
The pond and the steps
The estate pond is a working pond, not a play pool, and the paths between the cottages have laterite steps. Keep small children within arm's reach near the water and on the steps.
Beds & baby needs
Each suite sleeps 2 adults and 1 child. Extra floor mattresses are available for a small charge. For a high chair or anything warmed for a little one, tell the hosts before you arrive.
If a child gets unwell
Tell the hosts straight away and they'll direct you to the nearest doctor. The larger towns, Gonikoppal and Virajpet, are 15–25 minutes by road.
Cooper
Cooper, the hosts' German Shepherd, lives on the property. Nervous around dogs, or allergic? Tell us when you book.
Arriving & leaving
Check-in from 1 PM, check-out by 12 PM. Bengaluru is about 5–6 hours away by road, so plan a stop or two; Kannur airport is about 1 h 45 to 2 h 15. Getting here.
Who else is here
Families, couples, and small groups of friends who book both suites. No stag or party groups.

Coorg with kids

Questions parents ask

Is Mokha Grove good for families with young children?

Yes. There are no stag or party groups, so the estate stays quiet. Children have a kids' zone, lawns, an orchard, table tennis, carrom and Cooper, the hosts' dog. The estate walk and the bonfire are included.

How many children can stay in a Signature Suite?

Each suite sleeps 2 adults and 1 child, and extra floor mattresses are available for a small charge. Bigger family? When both suites are free, book them together: up to 4 adults and 2 children.

Do you have cots, high chairs or baby food?

Tell the hosts on WhatsApp before you arrive: your baby's age and what you'll need, whether that's a high chair or milk warmed, and they'll tell you what they can arrange. Extra floor mattresses are available for a small charge.

Is the estate safe for toddlers?

It's a coffee estate, so treat it like one. The estate pond isn't a play pool, and the paths between the cottages have laterite steps: keep small children within arm's reach near the water and on the steps.

What is the best time to visit Coorg with family?

October to March, when the weather is cool and pleasant, according to Karnataka Tourism. The south-west monsoon usually runs from early June to mid-September: the greenest months, but the wettest. Mokha Grove is open all year.

What is there to do with kids near Mokha Grove?

On the estate: the orchard, the play area, the lawns, table tennis, guided walks and the bonfire. By road, Dubare Elephant Camp is about 35–50 minutes away, and the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe and Iruppu Falls are each about an hour to an hour and a quarter. All drive times are approximate.

Let's keep the conversation brewing.
